MAZDA Service Tips: How to Jump Start a Car?

February 6th, 2023 by

Do you know how to jump-start your Mazda car? Our Mazda Service Center will help in ensuring you know how to jump-start your Mazda vehicle correctly. This will be useful for first-time car owners and a refresher for long-time car owners. This is what you need to know about jump-starting your Mazda car.

Locate and Position the Booster Vehicle

A working car will be needed to jump-start your vehicle. You can face both vehicles towards each other bumper-to-bumper or side-by-side for the jumper cables to reach both cars. Both cars should be turned off. Raise the hood or ‘pop the hood’ of both vehicles, then you will need to locate the battery off both cars.

Locate the Battery of Both Vehicles

Most car batteries are under the hood or the back seat; if you’re unsure about the location of your car’s battery, check the owner’s manual. A car battery has two metal terminals — a positive (+) and a negative (-) terminal. If there are no symbol indicators, the red cable connects to the positive terminal and the black cable will connect to the negative terminal.

Jump-Start the Vehicle

Connect the jumper cables. First, the positive or red clamps should be connected to both vehicles, and then the negative or black clamps should be connected. After all your connections are secure, start the booster vehicle (the car with the working battery). If your car doesn’t start immediately, wait a few minutes before trying again.

When your car finally starts, let it run for 15-20 minutes to ensure the battery maintains its charge. If your car is still not starting, it is time to call for professional help because there might be a more significant issue.

Disconnect the Jumper Cables

Begin disconnecting the jumper cables from the dead car battery, then remove the jumper cables from the booster car. Place the jumper cables on the ground, and ensure they are not touching anything else. When all cables have been removed, stow them in your trunk.
