Mazda all-wheel-drive

Everything To Know About MAZDA i-Activ AWD®

Whether it’s rain, sun, or snow, it’s no secret the weather can be unpredictable. And, of course, inclement weather can bring unpredictable driving. You’ll find that Mazda all-wheel drive in our new Mazda vehicles at Berkshire Mazda can give you all the extra confidence and control you need.

What is MAZDA All-Wheel-Drive?

Vehicles that are branded with AWD include all-wheel drive. An all-wheel drive system delivers power to both the front and rear wheels, which can give you better traction and control on almost any terrain.

Most vehicles are designed with front-wheel drive (or FWD) instead, which delivers power to the front wheels alone.

How Does i-Activ AWD® Work?

Mazda i-Activ AWD® takes it one step further. This system monitors the driver performance to help deliver the best results. It looks at your accelerator position, steering angle, brake fluid pressure, and more.

It monitors the temperature gauge and windshield wipers to help determine the road condition. When it’s needed, it delivers torque to the rear wheels for just the right amount of power. It utilizes a front-wheel slip-warning detection system that helps control drive force and a torque control system that helps give your vehicle an instantaneous response.

Which Vehicles Have i-Activ AWD®?

A number of new Mazda vehicles offer i-Activ AWD®. In fact, every new Mazda SUV includes i-Activ AWD standard or has it as an available feature. You can even find i-Activ AWD® in both the Mazda3 sedan and the Mazda3 hatchback.
