2020 Mazda CX-5 vs 2020 Hyundai Tucson: Compact Crossover Head-to-Head

There are many compact crossovers available near Pittsfield these days, but few have as much to offer as the 2020 Mazda CX-5. Compared to a competing model like the 2020 Hyundai Tucson, it’s more powerful, better equipped, and even offers more luxury without the pretense or the price tag. All in all, it’s one of many great reasons to visit Berkshire Mazda.

Performance

There’s a 187-horsepower base engine in the 2020 Mazda CX-5, but you can also upgrade to 250 horsepower. Either one is more powerful than either of the two engine choices in the 2020 Hyundai Tucson. Horsepower isn’t the only thing that makes for a thrilling ride, however. The body design, the chassis tuning, and standard G-Vectoring Control Plus torque vectoring also play their part, imparting a drive feel you won’t find in the Hyundai Tucson.

Capability

Space is a consideration in any crossover. Both of these SUVs are similarly-specced with regard to space; the Hyundai Tucson has only one tenth of a foot more than the 30.9 to 59.6 cubic feet of cargo space of our new Mazda SUV. That’s not something you’d notice without a tape measure. If you’ve got something larger that won’t fit inside, our SUV’s 2,000 lbs. of towing capacity outclasses the 1,500 lb. maximum of our Hyundai Tucson.

Safety

Performance, space, and towing capability are all nice to have, but what if you’re shopping for a family vehicle? That’s another point for the Mazda CX-5. Visit our Pittsfield Mazda dealership and you’ll find similar standard and optional safety features as you’d find in the Hyundai Tucson, alongside its own five-star safety ratings from the NHTSA. But there’s a twist; how those features do their jobs matter. The Hyundai Tucson earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick, whereas the smoother implementation of those safety features earns the Mazda CX-5 the coveted IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus rating.

None of this suggests that the Hyundai Tucson is a bad SUV. But there’s a world of difference between “good for the price” and “great,” and you’ll find that difference when you first get behind the wheel of a new Mazda CX-5. The team at Berkshire Mazda can help set you up with a test drive, as well as Mazda financing, parts, service, and everything else that makes your driving experience as enjoyable as you deserve.
